Christmas Cakes with Balloons!

Are you looking forward to Christmas?

Do you enjoy making cakes?

Why not follow these simple instructions originally created by SugarHero and make your very own Christmas Snow Globe Cup Cakes!!

What is required?

  • 12 sheets of platinum gelatin
  • Ice water
  • 8 x balloons
  • Wooden skewers
  • Tape
  • Styrofoam
  • Nonstick Cooking Spray

Follow these 10 simple steps to create your perfect Gelatin Balloon Bubble Cake Toppers:

STEP 1Fill a bowl with the ice water and add the gelatin sheets one at a time.
Make sure that these are separated and not in lump together.
Submerge them in the cold water and let them sit and soften for 10 minutes.

STEP 2 Once softened remove the sheets from the water and gently squeeze out  the excess water back into the bowl.

STEP 3 Place the  gelatin sheets and 3 tbsp of water from the bowl into a small saucepan.

STEP 4Warm the gelatin over low heat, swirling the pan occasionally, until the gelatin is melted. Watch the heat carefully, you do not want this to be hot just warm enough to melt.

STEP 5Inflate your balloons to the size required and tape them to wooden skewers securely. Use a small spray of the cooking spray on your hands, rub your hands together until the majority of the oil is absorbed.
Carefully rub your hands on the balloons, transferring just a little oil to them.
The balloons should not be greasy or shiny at all.

STEP 6Stick the wooden skewer balloons into the styrofoam

STEP 7 Pour the warm liquid gelatin into small bowl.
You can now dip the balloons into the gelatin, you can the balloon knot uncovered.
Let any excess gelatin drip back into the bowl.
Stick the gelatin covered balloon back into the Styrofoam and repeat the process with all of the balloons.

Step 8Leave the balloons for around 10 minutes allowing them to set. Once they have set, re-dip the balloons and coat for a 2nd time.
Put them back into the Styrofoam and leave at room temperature for 24 hours.

Step 9You will know your balloons are ready when they feel hard. Gently pop the balloon at the balloon neck and it will pull itself away form the sides of the gelatin, remove the balloon and set aside whilst you do this on all of them.

Step 10Trim the bottom of the gelatin balloon bubbles so that they are neat and the hole is the right size to fit on top of each cupcake. These can carefully be placed on each cake to finish your decoration!
